Week 21 ~ Transfer Chaos & Miracles Galore!

Wow, talk about a CRAZY week! We had transfer calls and guess what… Sister Palmer is leaving me 😦  Her work permit expired so she is being shipped out to Curacous. I am seriously so sad because wow, she is an amazing missionary and we get along so well. Seriously, everyday we laughed so hard our stomachs hurt. She is a gem. I think she will be coming back to Trinidad soon though 🙂 SO since Sister Palmer is leaving I am now leading out my area and I am super nervous about it. My area covers 9 cities and I still get lost trying to find my apartment… pray for me! I got my license ( which took days of waking up at 5:30 to drive to the license place and wait for 3 hours… ) so I have been driving the last couple days…. ABSOLUTELY TERRIFYING. The roads are so small and driving on the left side is super different. My knuckles are white every time I am driving hahaha. But I can do hard things! My companion is a sister named Sister Masciantoni. She is a transfer younger than me and also visa waited in the states. I will meet her in a couple days!
We saw so many miracles this week! Wow. So I wrote a couple weeks back about a guy named Gerald that is married to a member and has been investigating for 2 years now. Well, he was having in interview last night and all week Sister Palmer and I were nervous about it. Well Sunday morning at church, his wife walks up to me and hands us a baptismal invitation and smiles and said “He is going through with it this time!” I have never seen her so happy. Later that night we met at there house with the elders for the baptismal interview and after his interview our district leader says “I’ve never interviewed someone so prepared.” Ah! I am so happy for him and his little family 🙂
Yesterday we saw Rishma…I love her so much! She really is so prepared. She has a problem with drinking and really wants to stop so we brought a recent convert named Trevon who use to be addicted to alcohol and they connected so well. We had a discussion about how the atonement of Jesus Christ truly gives us the strength to do anything… especially to break an addiction. The spirit was SO strong. We then poured out all of Rishma’s alcohol haha 🙂
That’s all for this week! Please pray that I can remember to drive on the left side of the road so I don’t die.

Week 20 ~ I Ate A Chicken Bone!

HI HI!!! (<– that’s how Trinis say “hello”)

This week was….. CRAZY. I have been in the process of getting my Trini license and here… it literally takes a whole week of driving to Port of Spain every day…. and also we had an exchange that involved the whole island! So I was able to go down to the very  south end of the island which is cool because I am at the very north end…. it only took 1.5 hours to get there… with Trini traffic. Wow. I then realized that I am living on a TINY island. But down south is so different from up north! It’s a lot more calm and nice. And WOW I got to spend the night at the nicest sister’s apartment in the mission… I felt like I was in America. It had a stove that that I didn’t have to light with a match!!! And a shower that I could control the temperature on…. what luxuries.

My favorite experience of this week was with Rishma. This week we were able to go over the restoration and introduce the Book of Mormon. We started the lesson by asking her what she remembered about the restoration and she literally taught us the restoration,… she understood everything perfectly. And then when we introduced the BoM and how it works with the Bible… she just kept saying… “that makes so much sense.”  And then at the end of the lesson Sister Palmer was testifying that we are true representatives of Jesus Christ and that it wasn’t by coincidence that we met her and then Rishma said “I really think you are. The day you came to my gate I had been sick and throwing up all day. I wasn’t going to come out, but when I looked out the window I felt I needed to talk to you. And every time you are in my home it feel’s different. I can’t explain it.  It’s just a lighter and peaceful feeling.” ………..WOW!  She is so prepared for the Gospel. I guess last transfer Sister Palmer and Sister Paul (I took her place) always felt prompted to contact Rishma’s street, but never did. I am so grateful to have met Rishma. She is amazing and just the sweetest :,)

This week I ate a straight up chicken bone….. it actually wasn’t bad. Just crunchy and I’m sure it’s full of nutritional value (or foodborne illness…one of the two) And also, I totally ate it while running down a street. It was quite hilarious.   HAHAHA by ate it I meant I tripped while running down a street… not that I was eating the chicken bone while running.

Also, no pictures this week because the computer I am using isn’t working, but next week I will send some 🙂

Have a good week everyone!

Love you all! Go serve.

Weeks 18 & 19 ~ Never Coming Home…Sorry Mom:/

Sorry everyone that I didn’t write last week… it was some holiday here in Trinidad and literally every thing here was shut down. I’ve never heard Trinidad so quite, haha!

I don’t know how to fit the last two weeks into a quick email because we have experienced lots of challenges and have seen so many miracles! So I will share some of my favorites.

Sister Palmer and I have been working with a part member family. Gerald and Brittany and their two-year old daughter. Gerald has been through so many missionaries….. he is the most stubborn man I have ever met.  And for some reason, he just won’t pray and ask if the Gospel is true and he won’t read the Book of Mormon…. because he knows it’s true and just doesn’t want to accept it;) So we fasted. The next time we met with him after we had fasted, his heart was so softened. HE PRAYED AND READ AND IS BEING BAPTIZED ON THE 27th!  Wow, what a miracle. I am so excited for them. I shared with Gerald about how I know that him being baptized and receiving the Priesthood will bless his little family because having a father (shout out to my dad. He’s the best.) with the priesthood blessed me and my family so much as I was growing up and brought my family so much closer together. Wow the spirit was so strong.

RISHMA. Rishma is a cute little Indian girl that lives in a board house that we found contacting awhile back. We taught her the restoration and asked her to pray about it and she said… “I already know that it’s true.” WOW. She is so prepared for the Gospel. I’ll send a picture of her. She is just the cutest.

Funny story of the week…. while contacting we met this super wealthy Trini and he let us into his porch and we shared with him what we do as missionaries. Then he asked me to get drinks with him… lol awkward. So then I explained that as missionaries we don’t do that… and he said “they can be non alcoholic.” HAHA so then I explained that we don’t date. He then went inside and got his business card and gave it to me and offered to fly me back to Trinidad after my mission. Then he put his hand on my back and I LITERALLY ran away from him, hahahah. So creepy.

This week was definitely a challenging one. We got cancelled on SO much. But we honestly saw so many miracles. If you would have told me a year ago that I would absolutely love talking to strangers, walking around in blistering weather, and being exhausted all the time…. I would have told you that you’re crazy. But wow, I love this work! I love serving and getting to know the people of Trinidad. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is true. God lives.
